Yahoo! are looking for a Researcher / Engineer with experience or substantial interest in search, categorisation, data mining, NLP, MLR and other technologies that can give our product a competitive advantage.

 

The research position is critical and an engaged individual can add huge value at the same time as having a great time collaborating and learning from other world class researchers across our client.

 

We are looking either for a seasoned Researcher or a highly talented person recently completing an MSc or PhD in a related discipline. We expect you either to have commercial programming skills or have learned to program while studying.

 

Yahoo is a leader in grid computing and you will learn to use their grid to perform calculations with huge amounts of data that would be otherwise impossible.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Your prime responsibility will be to maintain and improve and develop research components that enable our client to handle and categorise data for millions of people. You will be liaising with the research teams around the world to collaborate, share information and evangelise on behalf of our product.

Skills Required

 

• Knowledge in several research fields.

• Experience in Perl or another scripting language.

• PhD/MSc or equivalent in a science/computing discipline.

• Intuitive understanding of computer and network architecture and operation, software performance trade-offs, and algorithm design.

• Java and experience of development, in a Unix environment.

• An understanding of Object Oriented programming principals.

• Knowledge of UML and technical specifications.

• Experience/Knowledge of working with source control systems.
