i have been told to identify all functinoal groups of two compounds.

A: B:

CH3-C=CH-CH2-OH + CH3-CH2-C=O

| |

CH3 OH

am i correct in saying compound A contains two functional groups, Alkene (the C=C double bond) and alcohol (the OH on the end) and B is a carboxylic acid?

the formula didnt come out to well....

The OH should be with compound B on the end with the C=O double bond.

If you're talking about functional group you're not correct. The compound is an alkene, is an alcohol, but its functional groups are not called alcohol and alkene. You should call it containing C-C double bond and hydroxyl group.

You're correct that B is a carboxylic acid, for the same reason it contains a carboxyl group.
