can an infrared transmitter send signals to the infrared receiver if an object is in the way?

Please answer my question and give me a suggestion whether i should use radio control system or infrared system for the car i am building.

Infra-red can be reflected from other objects, e.g. pointing the TV remote control at the ceiling will still control the TV. For reliable control I would use radio.

Infrared can pass through some objects opaque to other light (but not others), but I'm pretty sure radio will be better for a remote controlled car.
