USB 1/2 webcam problem

Featured Replies

I have a USB webcam that`s driving me nuts!

it`ll work on USB 1 or USB 2 ports but on the UBB 1 the res is really low and the framerate is 1 frame/sec.

on the USB 2 port it`s good res and 30FPS, BUT... for no reason I can figure it will crash (make the computer freeze) at any given time without warning, some times it`ll work for a day, other times it`ll freeze in a few seconds and I have to press the reset on the tower case.

I`v tried with and without an extension cable, I`v added a ferrite balum to stop noise and it still does it :-(

and yet another cam (a different make) works great on both USB types and never a problem (just a very low res).

any idea what`s going on?

is my USB port at fault?

is it the cam?

it`s a Driverless webcam and so I can`t update or even check that, also it will crash even if I have a picture displayed or not, so I doubt it`s the viewer.

Problem solved, I bought a 5 port USB 2.0 card that fits in a PCI slot and it`s working perfectly now.

I had to switch off the existing 2 onboard ports in the BIOS, but that still leaves me with 3 extra ports.

still have no idea Why it was doing it though?
