How much heat is released from the reaction of aluminum chloride and water? Yes, I've tried google. No, I don't have a calcinator. Now I could get really clever with some thermometers and styrofoam, but that wouldn't be very accurate, and would be a bit difficult to keep the reaction in an enclosed space with the large quantities of gas released, and I was rather hoping someone here might be able to help. you'll need to specify more details, anyway. For instance, are you doing this reaction at standard conditions or non-standard ones? You'll have to use entropy as YT says

A good calorimeter can be quite accurate. However, if you have the exact details of the conditions, the data should be available to be able to calculate it
