Can I make an acetal in NMP as solvent?

I need to make the acetal of a polyol but I'm limited to NMP (or DMF or DMSO) as a solvent. I was planning on using methane sulfonic acid as the catalyst, but I'm wondering if the acid will just protonate the amide solvent.

 

Any suggestions?

Use benzene, p-toluenesulphonic acid and azeotrope the water out with a dienstark apparatus
