h2o2 and copper sulphate

Featured Replies

i reacted h2o2 and copper sulphate ,what i got was a murky green solution with bubbles being formed should this be so?if so can you point me to some law or theory which may tell me why..thanx to all in advance.

what grade were the H2O2 and CuSO4?

I personally can`t see Any reaction mechanism that wouldn`t stabilise almost instantly to leave you copper sulphate again and some water.

I think YT is right, because when you look at oxidation states Cu forms then it is +2 which gives a blue ppt and Cu+1 which gives green. CU+2 being more stable. Also hydrogen peroxide is an oxidising agent so I doubt it would have any effect on CuSO4( there isn't any Cu+3 state)!

CuO2 (the peroxide) can exist, but that`s a red color.

I`m concentrating Less on the Copper ion and more on the Sulphate ion, it`s not going to convert to sulphuric acid and Not react with free copper again eventually.

Maybe a Persulphate?

I`m sure one of the Other guys here will know for sure though ;)

Couldn't it turn to H2SO4 + CuO + 1/2 O2

CuO and H2SO4 reforms back to Copper sulphate again, it`s also not Green, it`s Black.
