Logic, Reasoning Question #1

Featured Replies

I am working through an old exam in preparation for a scholarship exam, and am stumped on a few problems. I would appreciate if someone could help me out. I have some answers for a couple of the problems, but wanted you guys' ideas to bounce off mine. I am going to post a few problems on here. Thanks a bunch! (BTW - I am new here. HELLO :D )

An "irregular hexagon" is a two-dimensional shape with 6 straight sides, of varying lengths, which can otherwise have any size or conformation. That is, a given angle at whih two adjacent sides meet can be just about anything. Jack Chalk cuts two irregular hexagons out of paper. They have the same overall shape, but one is much smaller than the other. Despite this, Jack notices that he cannot cover the small hexagon completely with the larger! Suggest a shape that the two hexagons can have. [There are many possibilities]

I'm thinking the one with the smaller area is very, very long and not very wide. The one with the greater area looks more like a circle, even though sides are uneven.
