I was wondering if anyone knew the command codes to type into run directly to bring up remote desktop connection.

I live at a college at my University. I like to remote desktop my PC, so I can continue working on whatever I was doing at home between classes.

 

Though I dont know if it will work due to restrictions on our systems here.

They are quite annoying indeed. It seems they have restricted access to the cmd box. *sigh*

but they have the run command box, so hopefully it will help.

The name of the program is "mstsc.exe", and it's found in the System32 folder of the Windows directory, if memory serves (might need to double-check that, I'm working on a Vista system at the moment which may be a little different).

can`t you install VNC?

They may not allow any software installation, but yeah YT raises a good point there about using a third party program.

 

It's also worth noting that if they're blocking the usual RPC port (337?), you can use Port 80 instead (the web port). The catch is that you'll have to configure the web component in your machine at home, which is a little tricky if you're not familiar with it.

you could use putty to SSH out from uni and tunnel a USB version of VNC through it. i use tightVNC.

all you have to do is set up an SSH server and the VNC server on your home/dorm machine. this means its encrypted as well. adds some security. i recommend a public/private key encryption method.

Boy aren't we smart. You can install it to a thumbdrive genius

 

Run the server on your computer and carry around the client on a thumbdrive.

 

Use iptables/rinetd/your router to forward ports (eg to port 80 or 443).

It's easier to remember when you know that mstsc stands for "MicroSoft Terminal Services Client", at least in my opinion. I could never remember the name of the executable until it twigged.
