Odd question: would removal of a thyroid cause odor

Featured Replies

as it says, would it cause that person to smell odd?

perhaps the medication required after its removal?

Removal of the thyroid gland should not cause any smell.

I am going to reply to this post under the assumption that "odd smelling"= foul smelling, and not the smell of roses...

Well, any malodor post surgery should alert one to a possible source of infection or infectious process. It does not necessarily have to be in the area of surgery itself, but could be localised in a nearby area...

So, what i wud do is go c the doctor and tell him/her about the odor, and if it turns out to be a case of bad breath, then one hasnt lost anythin but a bit of time, but if turns out to be infection or some other thing, then one might have saved him/herself future complications..

medications can certainly effect the exocrine system, as can certain surgeries that effect the endocrine system (such as the Thyroid gland).

where is the smell coming from?
