I already saw the whole nova thing based on the book "The Elegant Universe," would it still be worthwhile to read the book also?

I read the book, or most of it at least, and I found it pretty interesting and informative. Sadly, more informative than my High School Physics class, at least with relation to quantum physics. So ya, I would recommend that you DO read it... the movie is more of a showcase for special effects.
