Why assume hybridization and not charges on Carbon ?

Featured Replies

Example if carbon is bonds to 3 species we assume it's singly bonded with 2 and doubly bonded with 1 and has hybridization of sp2. Why don't we assume sp3 and there is a negative charge on C ?

Is it role of hybridization is to form maximum sigma bonds ?

All non-hybridized orbitals form pie bonds ?

You are becoming a pain in the arse.

You have already been told to post these questions in Homework Help but seem to be ignoring that.

You post very brief, unclear questions, with insufficient context for a proper detailed response.

And you give no acknowledgement to the responses you receive, and thus give no clue to the responder as to whether the response has been useful to you or not.

It is all one-way traffic, with us doing the work and nothing coming back from you.

This is a discussion forum, not a homework answering service.

I second that, nothing worse than putting some effort into a reply to help someone then they just move onto the next question.

@exchemist @pinball1970 Sorry if i haven't thanked you for your answer but I do read them, it isn't like I just post question if you feel that way.

Good. It’s not really a question of thanks, but it would be nice to get a line or two in reply that shows you have understood the responses. What we are interested in here is imparting knowledge. So just lobbing information into a black hole is not very satisfying for us.
