Could Estradiol be linked to the development of Lupus in the brain?

Featured Replies

90% of Lupus patients are female. While estrogen itself seems to have no effect on the spread of Lupus, could the estrogen steroid hormone Estradiol be involved? It seems like it’s mostly involved with sexual processes: however, it also has important effects in the brain, skin, and liver. Estradiol is also produced in small amounts in males.

Could a surplus or deficiency of Estradiol be linked to the spread/severity of Lupus?
