Isolating Zooxanthellae from agar

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to isolate Zooxanthellae cells from agar plates without killing the algae.

I'm growing Zooxanthellae algae that have been isolated from soft coral tissues on agar plates made with F/2 medium. As of so far, they seem to be growing nicely.

In order to perform more tests on the algae, I have to isolate them while keeping them alive.

Is there any way to dissolve the agar, so that I could centrifuge the cells out? I know heat will melt the agar, but it would be too hot for the algae.

Thank you!

Ynon.
