Lead shift in S&E education/industry

it's about an economist's study of outsourcing hightech work especially to parts of asia.

 

and an apparent decline of interest in science and engineering (he abbreviates S&E) careers among US highschool and college students.

 

surprising conclusion, for me, was that the decline of interest in S&E among US students (I don't know if it really exists, but assume for argument's sake) can be argued to be economically rational

because of increasing job competition from overseas.

 

Not sure what I think of this. Could be flawed.
