How long can cell live outside culture medium ?

Does anyone know how long can I expect my cells (example HeLa) to survive in a plate where I took off the culture medium (after they proliferated)? Do they quick suffer from desiccation?

You would need a rate I believe , to calculate it , I'm not sure from off the top of my head . I would assume it would be fast If not in a protected culture and also temperature depending .
