Scavenger Hunt and chem problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks. there's a scavenger hunt going on in my neck of the woods and the joker running it has posted the location as a set of encrypted numbers within a chem problem. I don't remember how to do this from High School chem long ago, but I thought I'd throw it out to you all for some help. I need to know the pH and pOH values of these two solutions:

"5.0991 mg barium hydroxide octahydrate in 4.6 liters of water.

0.19825 g dihydrogen sulfate (aka sulfuric acid) in 374 ml of water.

(both are separate, and at 25 degrees C with nothing else present, assume no change of volume/temperature etc)"

-----------------

I can only think that it might want you to work out the molarity of the two; then giving you two co-ordinates perhaps? What's the molecular formula of Barium Hydroxide Octahydrate?

Ba(H2O)6(<--subscript)OH or something like that i just made it up from the name a complexometric positive ion (the barium and water ligands) and the hydroxide negative ion.
