Energy Formula

Featured Replies

I need to know how to write a formula that describes the energy of each of the quantum states of a hydrogen-like ion.

How do I then use this equation to calculate the energies of the first three energy levels of hydrogen-like carbon atom? Expressed in electronvolts.

E=-Z^2*m*alpha^2/(2*n^2), where

Z=6 for carbon,

alpha=1/137

m=511 keV

n=1,2,3.

This gives E=-490/n^2 eV for Carbon.

Bazza,

You're not by any chance working on an open university course are you?! If you are, thank you for asking that question!
