  1. And what interesting things can you do with it... besides killing people.
  2. ^Yes that's the purpose of opening them. The dremmel sounds like a good idea.
  3. ^Fireworks, black powder, etc. That thread is still going on... What is the KOH usefull for, because I have a few batteries laying around that I want to bust open. Also, is using a hack saw safe on the batteries? I don't want to corrode the blade (it's my dads) or inadvertantly start a reaction.
  4. So simple electrolysis of bath salts would yield bromine gas?!
  5. The confusing part is that positive ions are called cations and negatively charged ions are anions. I assume this is because positive ions are attracted to the negative cathode, and the negative ions attracted to the positive anode.
  6. I suggest using LILO. It is much easier to use and configure. It also boots any system you want (as jordie seems to suggest that only GRUB can boot both windows and linux).
  7. Something I'm missing here? How did the water magically split into OH- and H+?
  8. ^I was just about to note the fact that no one mentioned the boot loader... Make sure whatever boot loader you are using is configured properly (pointing windows to the right place). If that fails and you must access windows, use your windows cd to get to the recovery console and give it the command "fixmbr". After that, you will have to use a linux bootable floppy/cd to start SuSE, then reconfigure GRUB or Lilo from there.

    what exactly is superoxide?

    Potassium Nitrate

^Too bad Molotoz said sodium though, not cesium.
  11. Well if you're talking to us now it can't be that bad, can it? I'd be more worried about what's in your room at this point.
  12. I imagine that this may vary between drug stores, but for CVS, their mark up is included in the total price (like every other product). So if you insurance will cover the entire cost, then there is no charge to you.
  13. I have no clue how pharmacist payment works.
  14. If I take a bunch of stem cells and put them next to a Shaky's Pizza, will they replicate the Shaky's so that I can have delicious free pizza whenever I want? About how many aborted fetuses do you think it would take?
  15. And where does the government get its money? I would rather have to pay extra for my health than have to pay extra taxes for someone else's health.
  16. Major medical advances are made by the drug companies here in the states. Someone has to pay for them. It sucks, but that falls on us. If we were charged the same amount as other countries, there would be no money for new drug developement. I don't think that a NHS is beneficial. For one, it is communist. For two, it introduces bureaucracy into the health care system which we just do not need. Also, there are government programs that help provide medical care for those who can't afford it. If you can afford it, though, then you just have to deal with it. That's the way the cookie crumbles. And jdurg, since you are so good in chemistry, synthesize your own insulin! (lol).
  17. My brother was just recently diagnosed with a sleep disorder (multiple ones, I think). The jury is still out on whether he may have narcilepsy. I remember something about his amount of REM sleep. I think it was that he wasn't getting enough, if any, which is why he sleeps so much and can barely get up in the morning. If Frostrunner is right about not getting REM sleep making you go insane, then that explains a lot about my brother (heh.) So yeah, any comments?
  18. I think you are both confusing a magnesium firestarter with flint and steel. Also I think i have seen magnesium cylinders with plastic handles that you scrape wit a piece of steel. It makes sparks as you scrape bit of the magnesuium off.
  19. Only 800*C I thought. Those butane torches from unitednuclear say they can get higher than that (1648.888*C).
  20. ^Yes. A large block will be able to absorb more heat before ignitng, which means that more heat is required. Smaller pieces (especially with more surface area) will light quicker.
  21. Parts basically just means a ratio. If you were going to combust some H2 and O2 to make water, you would use 2 parts hydrogen for every 1 part of oxygen, since the formula for water is H2O.
  22. It's petrol lawn mowers. I don't know what you mean by "new kind ... in america". Do you mean electric? In that case, then no, they don't have it.
  23. No. In fact, the way US companies make money is by coming out with a new drup that does the same thing every few years. Once a drug is approved for use there is a certain amount of time that the original developer "owns" it. After that it can be sold as a generic no-name brand that is still the same thing. That is why a lot of insurance companies make you buy the generic version instead of name brand. To combat this, the companies just make some sort of "improvement" on the drug and slap on a new name.
