I think that the US is way overpopulated. The number may seem small, but Earth can't handle so many poeple. And, I said the majority of problems, not every single one.

Another thing I noticed is that in this part "The water is warm, the air is crisp and the apples are fresh (and crisp as well)." There are parentheses which, when writing a phone number, are usually around the area code.

One interesting thing to note is that it mentions seasons and times of year a lot in the note. Starting with the notions of spring/early summer in the first lines, and then winter and christmas in the last few sentences. Perhaps there is also some significance to the notion of "beginning with the north and moving down along the map". Perhaps a reference to a line of longitude, or maybe a metaphor for the way the winter cold moves from the north to the south as the season transistions from summer to winter.

 

This could be a way to tie the title into the rest of the note... the moon is at different places at different times of the year. But I'm probably just fishing for red herring here.

Could be, he does mention seasons a lot. Almost like he was trying to be poetic. So far, it seems like he mentions seasons and numbers a lot, a connection? Probably not, but maybe. It is interesting that he uses rhyme also; I doubt that he did that on accident.

I counted 2 times that rhyme is used, tell me if you see more.

So? you have still converted the natural habitat to a small farm! And displaced animals with the garden and/or directly killed them when you tilled the soil.

 

You don't change the conssequences because you have a farm to feed one person rather than a farm to feed hundreds.

If you think about things that way, then that would make it impossible to do almost anything. By merely walking on the ground we disturb many creatures. When we build any place to live in, such as a house or apartment complex, we destroy the environment in that immediate area and inevitably affect the lives of countless animals and plants. Not to mention the obviously big problems that humans create like pollution, over farming and cutting down too many trees.

By "in their own back yard”, I meant not only in their back yard, but in pots or other ways that don't disturb the soil. Also, I was only pointing out that some vegetarians do that, I wasn't necessarily saying that it was okay.

Even though this doesn't have much to do with my post, In my opinion, the majority of modern-day problems are caused by over population of humans.

I did consider it. When i said in the first post that maybe it's just something that he wrote as a joke.

Anyway, in response to the latest post, i think that the moon and pocketwatch thing has something to do with it. Maybe it's referring to times when people didn't have real pocketwatches or when pocketwatches weren't common. When people used the sun and the moon to tell time? I don't know how that would help to solve it... but who knows.

(btw, sorry i have not been on here for a few days, my internet connection has been down for a while! We finally got it back up today.)

I'm not sure. You could be right! Jon Walker didn't leave any clues which makes this even harder.... I would assume that he's not being that deep, but there isn't a real way to know! Unless we ask him of course, but I doubt that he would tell us. : (

Why wouldn't it? Ice caps form when snow falling in winter can't be melt over during the warm season. If it gets colder, ise would surely re-freeze, the water would again become rather saline, and all conveyor would start working again.

I was just asking because I've heard from various sources that salt water can't freeze. Of course, those sources could be wrong. I was just checking to make sure.

Some vegitarians grow their own food in their own backyard.

I can pick quite a few numbers out of it, it all depends on what Depth you look into.

 

the msg even HAS 4 numbers written in it for instance, a whiskey with a number would be Jack Daniels, Christmas is the 25`th the rest after that is probably about an answering machine or time to get to the phone. phone pads are also Alpha-Numeric, and "CRISP" is mentioned twice.

I noticed these also, but I'm not sure how to string them all together or (like you said) how deep the message would be. He mentions a few more numbers in it but I’m not sure if they are relevant.

There are many reasons why people are vegetarian. Some just don't like meat, some don't like farming practices as it is often cruel, some don't like to kill animals, some will only eat meat if they kill it/find it themselves etc.

 

For those that don't like to kill animals the issue is often personal, and is basically "if I don't need to eat animals to survive then I will not eat them". Non-human animals do not have a choice, and furthermore, have no opinions on the rights and wrongs of killing animals to eat.

 

You're hamburger idea is fine, but does not take into account the cruelty and habitat destruction that can often be involved in producing that hamburger. I usually only eat free-range 'ethically farmed' meat for this reason and also don't actually eat meat that often.

 

Many plants have benefited by evolving to cope and even thrive by being eaten. This is why fruits are nice to eat - the seeds are spread by animals that eat them. Grass can cope with being grazed as it grows from the bottom, and in grazed habitats dominates (e.g the North American plains and the Savannahs).

 

An interesting point is that in biomass terms perhaps the most successful organism on the planet is wheat. It's so successful that it even pushes mankind out of huge areas of the planet! Also, in biomass terms there is more cow on the planet than human. By being good to eat a symbiotic relationship with man has developed which has made cows very successful organisms.

Though I would like to add that some people are vegetarian because they believe that meat is unhealthy for them and a number of people are vegan because they do not think that dairy and other animal products are healthy. Also, when people get older they often become intolerant to many animal products, especially dairy, so they stop eating them altogether.

Plants have no brain or nervous system, thus they cannot perceive that they are being "hurt" or killed. Many people believe that because of this, they are not really killing it, even though a plant has life.

But think of it this way, if you don't eat meat then you are left with plants and their products (plus some animal products if you are not vegan); if you decide it's un-ethical to eat any animal products you are left with plants and their products; after that, if you eliminate plants from your diet, not only is there no way for you to get the nutrients that you need, but you are left with only a small number of plant products to eat. So basically, if you are vegetarian/vegan you have almost no choice but to eat plants, even if you think it's not right to take any life.

Well, should it get colder in Arctica, the ise will build up again. Then the Gulfstream will come back, and everything will return to normal.

Okay, so I'm no genius, but since the ice melts and mixes with salt water, even if it gets colder, it won't re-freeze or build up again will it? Of course, I don't know how the ice caps were developed in the first place. I'm just asking.

Has anyone here seen the movie GATTACA? It has to do with genetic engineering, more specifically, removing illnesses rather than engineering someone’s physical characteristics. I thought the movie was very interesting, and I could actually see many aspects of it happening in the future.

My father is gay. I know that he doesn't really care if he's allowed to get married or not, he's still going to be with his partner.

Right now, I think that generally gays are being discriminated against just as many other groups have been in the past. Eventually people will get over the fact that a man can be in love with a man and a woman can be in love with a woman and they will move on to another group to discriminate against.

This is a "secret message" posted in the Panic! At The Disco journal on their website. I was wondering if anyone here can make sense out of it; if it's a real message or just something that Jon Walker wrote to be funny or something. I'm also interested in how one would solve something like this. I don't have a clue as to how to solve it. (The bolded part is the title and date it was posted, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the "message" or not.)

It means hello

I know this thread was 2 years ago.. but I did it anyway.. I got to 16 first try with no sound. It's rather boring after a while. After i got to lvl 10 I pretty much had it where I automatically clicked the right colors w/out thinking. Then I just paid attention to the last color that it flashed (so that I didn't make myself confused by focusing on colors I already knew) anyway, I memorized the last color that was flashed and just kept going. I hope this makes sense, I'm not good at explaining things. Anyway I hope there are some posts on this site that are younger than 2 years!
