  1. I thought he meant other compounds that you can use to make water.
  2. How about 2 guys that are the same size (volume) but one has more mass. So one guy weighs more but isn't bigger and causing more air resistance. In that case, my guess is the guy with a higher density wins.
  3. +1, what insane_alien said. the gas becomes so energetic that the atoms cannot keep a hold of all their electrons so they fly off or become shared randomly with other atoms (I'm don't remember).
  4. If you used a wormhole wouldn't your velocity still be less than c but space/time warped in a way that you got there sooner as if you actually went faster than c? In other words, you'd be perceived as getting to your destination faster than light by onlookers but as you travel through the wormhole wouldn't you be traveling slower than c?
  5. What if you aimed the canon straight up, shot it and timed how long the projectile is in the air? Divide that number (T) by two so that represents the object travelling from the cannon to the top of its travel OR from the top to the ground (t). The object velocity out of the cannon OR velocity when it hits the ground should be nearly the same. Then v at m/s =1/2att..... or is it v = at ? I'm having a brainfart at 5 in the morning..
  6. Also don't forget Newton's 2nd Law where net Force=ma. Your parents' car engine can only put out so much horsepower to create the force needed to move the car forward. Adding mass will reduce acceleration. If the load you guys are carrying is piles up high on the car then not only does the mass keep the car moving slow but it also reduces the net force acting on the car due to air resistance. Hope ya had a great vacation!
  7. Nuclear power is ethical as long as waste is disposed of ethically and legally (which is arguably two different categories). Nuclear power is very reliable and cheaper to produce vs. coal. Wind and solar is highly unreliable but a nice addition to base load when it's available. While the public has reservations about nuke power, I'd have no problem working at such a power plant (at "ground zero"). Electricity is a necessary evil so ask yourself which is worse..greenhouse emissions (from coal plants) or small amounts of nuclear waste (assuming spent fuel is dealt with appropriately)? Coal-fired plants are being upgraded with much better emission control and monitoring systems so you might have a rebuttle there but yeah, nuke plants are the shizzle, IMO.
  8. When you say "electrical charge" I think stored electrical energy. I think that, often enough, the term "energy" might have a connotation of power usage or kinetic energy... There is stored energy that is thermal, tidal, chemical, nuclear...etc. Hmm. Technically, electrical charge is but one out of many forms of (stored) energy. I don't know I'm just buzz typing, heh.
  9. I'm just happy I got "an impossible" teaser correct..
  10. This article makes a lot of sense now. I work rotating shiftwork and constantly find myself near panic attacks, moody, depressed, paraniod, etc...basically "out of control" inside my mind.
  11. I hope I remembered correctly but I thought I read somewhere that fish do have glucosamine in them. As a hobby weightlifter I choose to eat more servings of fish around hard workouts so I get the benefits of any antioxidants plus maintain my joint health with the glucosamine all the while getting more protein with less bad fat. Now that was a nice run-on sentence!
  12. Try to get her in for a second opinion at a different doctor. People think doctors are dieties all the while they are totally capable of mistakes, miseducation and wrongdoing. I've been around people with serious medical problems that can't be explained. They have the same problem...they don't want to go back and get checked out...when it's your well-being and happiness...well that's pretty important. Get her in to some one that will probably treat her differently. Best wishes!
  13. I'm scratching my head now....but how would you start counting in base e? I thought the number e was just one number (the square root of -1).
  14. So you and soooo many other women think we men should suffer just because you do? It's not like the male gender invented childbirth to happen to females. If we did then OK, you have a justified point, but, come on! really!?
  15. Nothing is "burning". The impact is emitting energy, some of it in the form of visible light.
  16. Man, how old are you? This is something Jr. High kids do. I'm not flaming, I'm asking. You can't make fire with water and water.
  17. A pic of me doing exactly what I really enjoy: Sincerely, Dirtyamerican
  18. When I was talking about the idea of farting I meant in theory. Sure, you would have to be naked which means inside a space capsule under pressure so you don't die or blow your guts out, obviously. Some of you are talking about needing to push off something to move...when you fart you are pushing off of your intestinal gases...a rocket is propelled by gaseous releases (although it's also exploding gas). Sure, a fart would propel you very slowly but technically it would work (I challenge future astronauts to try this and/or ignite their farts for added thrust). Solar sails propel a vessel in space VERY SLOWLY but over time it can travel very fast. The original question was "Can you move in space?"...yes, you can. Dirtyamerica(n) style.
  19. I've been wondering for years now....what "signature" of notes makes up a pleasant song for us? It's like the phenomenon of facial structures that are most attractive/asthetically pleasing to us. The question I ask would probably have different answers based on societal context. But I'm wondering about popular music in America.
  20. Are you suggesting that photons are disc shaped?
  21. I've got my diploma in 1997 so no more classes for me! But I just wanted to add that while some classes may seem like a waste of time depending on your major, in retrospect I'm glad I learned what I did from those classes. You understand the world better. Regardless of benefits to my career, it benefitted me personally. That's always a good thing.
  22. Join the club! You're not pitiful or cowardly. You obviously haven't taken Psychology 101 or seen the commercial for it. You described me although I haven't been diagnosed. When I get the courage to go to a shrink someday it'll be for depression or just a general analysis on what the hell is wrong with me. In the meantime I find that hanging with friends or family is a breeze. But I must prepare emotionally ahead of time to socialize with strangers in advance if there is no purpose or common theme to conversation. I overanalyze things as well. However, get me in a forum or in front of people where I can "socially lubricate" (as I call drinking) and I feel normal and content to relax and talk with people I don't know one bit. If it impacts your life bad enough, get that help otherwise you're going to have to live with it and accept it.
  23. ....hehe, if you only knew. A small push by a fart would propell a body through space. You'd probably just end up doing back flips though.
  24. Do what I would do.....flatulate. Seriously.
