The transitional metal elements can have all kinds of charges, some more commonly than others.

yeah, but what I am trying to find out is how do you tell what that charge would be? is there any kind of indicator or something, rather than having to just pull a random number out of a blackhole?

am trying to find out how to determine what the charge of a transitional metal is based on the periodic table, with the end goal of working out a name for the compound formula and quantities of each atom etc.

when given a chem compound formula containing a transitional metal and a main group non metal, finding the charge of the non metal is easy. my textbook says that transitional metals have different rules to the main group ones but does not tell me how to get the charge of them.

I know it has something to do with the roman numerals along the top, but only keep being referred back to the main group elements.

any help with this would be muchly appreciated.

actually, 'The Fly' was not about genetic manipulation, it was about a scientist who managed to create a teleportation machine but got messed up when he accidentally teleported a fly at the same time as himself. the fly got reassembled as part of his own structure because the machine did not know it was meant to be two seperate organisms instead of one.

You could also investigate people with autism and or aspergers syndrome as synesthesia is semi-common in these conditions.

Try contacting support or social groups for people with aspergers, see if any of them would be willing to chat.

ok, so the practical consensus is that a permanant bacterial slide will have dead stained bodies instead of living beasties.

next questions:

- is there a particular stain used for such things?

- do the bodies need to be preserved in any way or are they ok as is?

Just wanting some info re preparing samples for permanant slides.

'dry' things I have no problem with, since they are not at risk of mould attack or decay etc.

my question is this:

- if I want to do a permanant slide of something living eg bacteria or other cells, how do I prepare them?

- do I need to do anything in particular to make them more visable eg stain, and in what situations would I use what stains?

- do I have to allow food for the little guys, or can I just seal down the cover slip as is?

- how do I preserve the little bacteria or whatever on the slide so I can continue to admire them in a years time?
