Recently I accidentally stoppered a flask with a stopper that was too small. It still plugged the top of the flask, but it was in real deep (no, I don't mean that... ) I managed to get it out (it was hard) but it came close to actually falling into the flask. Had it actually fallen in, it wouldn't come out if I just turned it upside down. How would I get it out? It's a 500ml filtering flask in case it matters. The stopper it came with (used for the Büchner funnel) did not have its size labeled, but the one I tried to use (that was too small) was a #7 stopper.

Ammonia is NH₃, or hydrogen nitride, so it would seem like it would be an acid. However, as we all know, it's a base. Why is this?

I bought some Floweasy Drain Opener from Lowe's, and it says it's virgin sulfuric acid (93% I think) with twelve buffers. The problem is, it appears reddish-brown. What causes this, and how can I purify it?

Are there any colored gases besides the halogens and NO₂? Any that are non-toxic?

Iron(III) chloride (PCB etchant) and potassium nitrate both smell bad. And copper sulfate, kind of.

(KNO3 and CuSO4 only smell when there's a whole lot of it, like in the container it comes in.)

I have a bottle of lotion on my nightstand (don't ask) along with some pennies. Occasionally, some of the lotion spills on the pennies, and the lotion turns green. I assume some chemical in the lotion is reacting with the copper plating in the pennies, due to the characteristic color, but I'm curious as to exactly which reaction is taking place. Below are the ingredients to the lotion I have:

INGREDIENTS: Water, Petroleum, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Glycol Stearate, Dimethicone, Colloidal Oatmeal, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Carbomer, Stearamide AMP, Ethylene Brassylate, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).
