  1. On the other hand, enter "biblioteca" in the English google, and itll bring up sites in spanish, simply because sites written in english would not have that word, rather, they would have "library."
  2. Huh, I've never seen that before. How odd. What is the point of those, do you think?
  3. What is the point of the internet, then? Maybe not .country. I still like that idea of .organizational_type, though. The problem would be to divide the professional and the acedemic from the "whee look what my fourth grader did." Maybe .organizational_type.level_of_expertise? Or something? Any thoughts?
  4. Well, sarcasm aside ( ), I like the .country bit. Maybe we can add the next bits a bit later...
  5. Excelent, this looks awesomely complete. Thanks everyone!
  6. Before Mr. Dewey, libraries were arranged pretty much according to the librarians whim, and, moving from one library to another, it would be hard to find books, because there was no standard. Although the internet, since there is only one of it (thank god ), is not in quite this situation, its still pretty messy, and it might be a good idea to come up for an organizational structure for it. I have no idea how it might be implemented, and we won't get it developed enough to actually submit it, but it might be fun to come up with one. My personal idea is to have the extensions .com, .net, etc, changed to something that shows more of its purpose, like .gov or .org. These are still pretty vague, so maybe multiple of them, like .gov.something. I dunno. Any ideas, or is this completely dumb?
  7. Hmmm...what sort of work does emulating entail? And how is Ubuntu diffrent that normal linux? Is there such a thing as normal linux? Why am I asking so many questions? Speaking of funny words, isn't Ubuntu a funny word?
  8. Alien, I've heard that Linux is frightfully complicated, and you can screw up your computer easily. Also, a lot of windows programs, especially games, won't work on Linux. Are those true, or just propaganda? Awesome, thanks Dak. Exactly what I was looking for. Cerulean is a funny word. So is Loiter. Just say it outloud. LLoooiiittterrrr.
  9. Cover someone's body with molten rubber. Wait for the rubber to dry. Cut off the rubber so that it can easily be put back together, like into two pieces. Remove the rubber. Glue the pieces together. Fill it with water. Measure the water. The guy is probably dead, but whatever. Some sacrifices must be borne. Or skin the guy, and then reattach the skin so it is like a suit. An Edgar suit. Measure the amount of water that can fill the Edgar Suit.
  10. Rocks are warm and cuddly too. And they are so excited when they see you come home. Really active creatures. Its great.
  11. Hi. I just got a new computer, and, because I hate the trials and free offers and the crapola that windows loads into every computer, I uninstalled everything but the OS. I was wondering what you all would suggest for installing next. A list of essential software, preferably free ware, that I should install. I already have Firefox and Thunderbird, but not an ISP. No virus protection or anything like that, or media players. (I'm not accessing SFN on that computer, I'm using another one). Thanks! -anjruu
  12. It seems to me that this is a sonic boom, but in light. A visible boom, then. The algebra and functions behind it should be fairly similar if not identical, substituting in c instead of the speed of sound. Is this correct?
  13. How about "A Scanner Darkly"? That was an excelent movie, in my opinion. Faithful to Dick's story, with cool effects, and still interesting. I don't think it was independent, either, but I am not sure...
  14. Ahehe, I'm not sure. Lets try again. Its not 4, there is acceleration due to gravity. Its not 3, because, if it were 3, it must also be 2, which discounts 3. It might be 2, because 2 does not force 3 like 3 forces 2. It cannot be 1, because that would imply the existence of a centrifugal force making the particle go in a circle. Therefore, the answer is 2. Hows that? Does that make sense?

Well, I think that’s a more of a function of the setting. I mean, this is a science forum, after all. 'N' stands for intuitive, and it basically means that those people receive information from their subconscious more than from their senses (S). Ever had one of those "aha!" moments, where something that just did not make sense suddenly snapped? That's, I think, one of the classic "N" traits. Of course, "S"'s have those too, just not as often, or something. And "N"'s get information from their senses too, just not as much or as strongly. Think the disconnected scientist type. You got the E vs. I though. That’s intro- vs. extroverted, but not in the classical senses of the words. I myself am strongly introverted, but I love going to parties and stuff. The difference is, I get really tired by the end of them, whereas someone who is more extroverted would get their energy from socializing, and get tired being alone. It’s where you get your energy.
  16. If you are in a position of authority over this boy, I would take him into a trained psychologist and present his actions there. I'm afraid that any response on this forum, in my opinion, would have neither enough specificity nor enough expertise (please forgive me, any people who do) for such a case.
  17. ...I'm sorry? Was that meant to imply that we do not? Hmmm...I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'advantage.' It would be impossible to tell in a one-on-one fight, no tools, because no matter where you do it, ocean or land, one of the creatures would have a distinct disadvantage, simply because the dolphin or the human would be in an area where they would not have evolved to be. However, with tools, a human would win anywhere, anytime. Since the use of tools is part of our evolutionary history, I think we can say that humans have an advantage ove dolphins. If you want, to make it fair, we can give the dolphin a gun and a speedboat and a mini-fridge as well.

Oh, thats a good one Pheonix. "I'm sorry that I don't care your mother died. I'm INTJ, I'm not supposed to give a crap." "I can't write a poem based on an experence of my life for English, after all, its useless, and I'm INTJ."
  19. A cart moving in a circular path, and a particle is thrown upward from the cart, right? From whose frame of reference? Outside the whole system? In that case I think it is choice 3, because the velocity vector at any point in circular motion is tangent to the circle, and the particle no longer has any centripetal acceleration keeping it in the circle, so it is 'free' to follow the velocity tangent. This means that it has both horizontal and vertical (from the upward throw) components of motion and nothing else, resulting in parabolic motion. Does that sounds correct? I've probably forgotten something... EDIT However, that means that choice 2 is also correct, because if it follows a parabolic path, it has velocity along x, which will take it outside the circle, so my answer can't be correct, because it would make two answers correct. It can't be 4, because there is acceleration downward due to gravity, which leaves 1. But I can't see how that would be...
  20. "What I can't stand are people who say that we only dream in black and white. That's such bullshit. I get a whole lot of colour in my dreams." I only dream in black and white... I wonder what that means about me. Probably that I secretly want to be a woman. I've been reading some Freud recently
  21. On the other hand, given the situation in the Middle East, and the anti-american sentiment pretty much everywhere, and the fact that the US and the UK are allies, and the relative ease of access to the UK and other European states, I would say that an attack is pretty damn likely. On the other hand, its nothing new, so whatev.

Oh, not for me Severian. I change my birthday pretty frequently.

Um, lets see, I guess its the diffrence in how people react to and understand things. For example, severian, jordan and I are all INTJ, which means we would react to the same thing in the same general manner, whereas Bettina, being INTP would react slightly diffrently. Depending on what it is, Bettina's reaction may be the same as Jordan's or Severian's, because of the similarity in thier type (only one diffrence) but an ESFP, the opposite of INTJ, would react and understand things in a completly diffrent way.
