  1. The Earth's magnetic field is produced by a system of huge whirlwinds of molten metal in the outer core known as a "geodynamo". These vortices arise from a combination of two factors: convection, and the Coriolis force. Convection currents act as the basic pathways that the molten metals take, while the Coriolis effect causes the molten metal to spin and form into defined column-like structures, oriented on the same axis as the Earth's rotation. This process is called Dynamo Theory.

In view of the above Mars has only a solid core that prevents the development of a global magnetosphere. (no differentiation into outer and inner core).

    What is the difference?

The phrase "expanding universe" is short-hand / analogy for "distances between things increasing by a changing scaling factor".

The expansion of the Universe could be described as "the time evolution of space".  As an extension of this, the Universe could be described as "finite and unbounded".

I  remember a few years back (before Google) when searching was simpler. Not as efficient ,for sure  but the results were not skewed by advertising or geographical constraints.

As an example ,I have just been searching the term "upper landing" to satisfy my curiosity that it was indeed used to indicate  an area in the first floor of a building.

The first pages seem to be overwhelmed with some business location in America which is called Upper Landing" and I do not have the energy to create my own filter to weed all these unnecessary results out to find what it is that I want.

Is there a search engine that will not track my IP address or try to sell me products when all I  want is relevant information.

I tried DuckDuckGo but it seemed not to make a difference.....

Google optimizes searches based on geographical locations. If you search for the same string in US or India, the results will be different (this is because google has different data centers for different geographies).

  4. Having played chess on the Internet with players from nations as diverse as Mozambique and Iran, to cite an example, I can endorse the fact that a kind of telepathic consanguinity develops between the players, even if it is only ephemeral. This is a prelude to the actual thawing of ice between otherwise discordant individuals. Better building bridges than building walls (Newton said so....). >:D

  5. What do you consider the word "proactive" to mean?

    adjective
    1. (of a person or action) creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened.
In the context of political conflicts and differences of opinion.
  6. Why not let our diplomats get on with what they are good at, and leave chess to the people who are good chess players.

    Why choose chess?

Why not teach them sumo wrestling; it makes just as much sense?

Having a tete-a-tete over a cup of coffee and a game of chess seems more proactive..... ;)

  7. Computers are beating humans in chess but the man-man contest still elicits interest. How about training our diplomats in chess and have negotiations over a board of 64 squares ? (I have heard of romantic associations being formed over the chess board.).
