  1. Hi everyone, I'm an audio engineer (not a neuroscientist) and I'm wondering how I could find out more about "higher levels" of sound processing in the brain. I've noticed, for example, that I can be lost in thought in a quiet room, then suddenly listen outwardly and it feels as if someone has stopped talking. So if anyone has any suggestions for books on how the brain deals with sounds beyond the ears, I'd appreciate it. Most texts end with "and signals are converted to electrical impulses and 'sent to the brain'" I'd like to know what happens after tha. Thanks, -Matt
