  1. I read about some bats that had been tested positive (for either virus' RNA or antibodies) but didn't develop any symptoms. Is there an explanation for that?
  2. Did scientists find ebola's reservoir? If not, what kind of species can it be? Are there any theories?
  3. Today I read that horses are immune to ebola. I wonder what makes them resistant? It was stated in a book Ebola. The natural and human history of a deadly virus.
  4. http://www.ptable.com/ That one is enough for me.
  5. We can't explain everything scientifically, so there is always an argument for those who believe (God did this, God did that).
  6. I was working with her cells (well, technically not her, but she's the original source) during my cervical cancer research. They are just great for lab work due to its survivability.
  7. Bones do change. The tissue they are made of has a different kind of cells that work as builders and destroyers. You can trigger changes by they way you "use" bones. You can experience shape changes in case of people with certain diseases (ex. Paget disease) or ones who do not care about their health. If you keep bad posture your bones eventually adapt in a way that's wrong for your organism. Speaking of injury: http://www.rehab.research.va.gov/jour/08/45/2/pdf/Dudley-Javoroski.pdf
  8. I agree with John. Putting two tigers who do not know each other together might trigger aggressive behaviour. You can never be sure what animal thinks, so basing any action on its behaviour is risky.
  9. We do not know much about our brains. It's all about theories that might be wrong. For example the concept of left and right hemisphere does not show the relation between parts of the brain. They work together to create us. Not so long ago it was suggested to use division into upper and lower brain part. We can talk about many different things yet to be explained. Consider glial cells - its role is uncertain.
  10. Someone made a point that pain has nothing to do with stress or emotions which might be wrong. DIfferent neurotransmitters released during certain emotional states can contribute to pain toleration. Consider adrenaline for example.
  11. From what I can see it all started from this place: http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2014/03/tritan-certichem-eastman-bpa-free-plastic-safe Here's what manufacturer has to say: http://www.eastman.com/Markets/Tritan_Safe/Pages/Get_the_Facts.aspx Funny thing: I was completely serious with that. These articles can be sum up like this.
  12. I sometimes see women ranks (even on casual websites!) which present artificial beauty as the best. Amateur porn presents "normal" women, so yes, it is different. But seeing big, silicone boobs as #1 makes me wonder how many men are watching this and thus being influenced. We could have more on psychological issues caused by porn after making a study on every porn group watchers. I am not sure if somebody did it.
  13. Maybe topic placement wasn't the best, but it's a chemical compund after all. Synopsis? BPA is bad, BPA-free bottles are bad, the company behind tritan is bad, the whole worlds is bad. There was a case of independent organisation going over tritan with a fine-tooth comb. They had found some evidence which weren't good for the producer, so he decided to go to court. He won, but many websites wrote about this, contemplating the issue. On some websites I read that triphenyl phosphate is the chemical that might me ever worse than BPA. It has to be said that all the articles were written earlier than 2015, so maybe there is more evidence. I wish someone made a glass that you cannot break. That's the obstacle that prevents me from using this material.
  14. Recently I've been looking for a bottle - something that will last longer than normal bottles you can buy in local shop. I thought about something made from stainless steel, but such things are usually too small to hold enough water. So after few hours of walking from one shop to another, I found one which had the biggest variety of products. I chose tritan bottle. I bought it yesterday and used it today for the first time. Water has a different taste in comparison to normal bottle, I am unsure about the cause. Anyway, I did research today on tritan, trying to find more information about its effects. I came across many articles, all of them were about lawsuit - you know, sombody found evidence on tritan being harmful, the producent went to court to prove that it's healthy (and he won). Now, I have no idea of whether to keep using tritan bottle daily or admit that I lost money on unhealthy product. Although I find websites for travelers which seem to cheer for tritan bottles as being better than any other products (including ones made of steel). Do you guys have any ideas?
  15. Not really. Porn films/pictures are usually well edited and people are using special equipment to make them look good, so they do not present the standards in a real world.
