Jessica Johnson is a 17 year old African American adolescent who has been in a monogamous relationship with her boyfriend for the past three months. She admits to “sometimes” using condoms, but would like to be on a “different form of birth control, such as the shot or the pill”, but is concerned about gaining weight. Her current weight is 202 pounds; height 64 inches; blood pressure 112/79 and heart rate. Her last menstrual period was 32 days ago. She denies vaginal discharge, pruritis, and lower abdominal pain.

1. Identify the patient characteristics (physical, psychological, cultural, social, economic, lifestyle, etc.) that should be considered relevant to this case.

2 Before prescribing any form of contraception, what questions would you ask of this patient?

3. Discuss what principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics should be considered relevant for this case. Think about the characteristics of the patient (from question 1) .

4. For the patient above, give three possible options for contraception. For each, give the class, mechanism of action and why this choice is an appropriate choicefor this patient. Please keep in mind that I am looking for pharmacological options in this question. Abstinence, while appropriate, is not an acceptable answer for this question.

5. Propose a plan of care for this patient. Include any medications, education, follow-up visits, labs, etc.

You need to do a bit of work and let the members comment - we do not just do answers for you. And I deleted the duplicate question you asked. Maybe go through the facts, list them, and say whether you think each is important (how regular is her period; is 32 days normal or longer than expected in which case future contraception might be shutting the stable door) - and some combinations of facts (ie over two hundred pounds and less than five and half foot)
