  1. I'm currently a biochemistry undergraduate. I have a 3.6 GPA and I'm currently working in a lab for the summer working with zebrafish and using PCR, qPCR, and gels. I think I have myself on a pretty decent path with this research, and I plan to join another lab this fall to expand my knowledge and skills and resume. I went to college with the hope of being a professor and university researcher. I'm very aware at this point how incredibly difficult it is to get tenure and the amount of politics involved really discourages me from wanting that. I feel like I would enjoy being a physician, as I enjoy hands-on things as well as statistical and computer use (I am sort of a handyman as a hobby) but I genuinely don't think I have the instant recall required to effectively treat patients. I can learn and understand and regurgitate things very easily and well, but sometimes it's like my brain takes time to find what I'm looking for. I could never put other people's lives in my hands when I have doubts like that. I feel like I want to pursue a master's in Biochemistry, but what would I do with that? With a BS in Biochemistry, would I find more applications to a stable career in some other Ms? So far, I really enjoy research and I imagine I would enjoy it in either an academic or industrial setting. Should I look into professional things like Pharmacy school, or even a graduate degree in Forensic Science or something else? Wherever I end up, as long as I'm in science, I think I'll enjoy my job - but I want to ensure that I get something that will let me enjoy my life. I do not need a $200k/year salary, but I would rather live decently ($80k+?) and with high job stability. The job stability is my main concern. Thanks! Kind of threw everything out there, hoping someone can catch a few darts and put them on the board for me to look at.
