Gambling and religion.

I've been reading this article on casino advertising deleted and started thinking about the view different religions have on gambling. I know that Christianity and Judaism have approved of it in the past but I think now they're against it? I'm not so sure. What about Islam? Buddhism? And other religions? Is gambling ethical?

This is the other major fundraiser for the parish. It is held every Friday evening. Doors open at 4:00 and Bingo begins @ 6:30. The kitchen opens @ 5:30. For additional information call 636-946-6799

Workers are needed for food preparation and selling cards, set-up and clean-up.
Volunteers work once every seven weeks.

It depends on what you mean by the "religion advocating" something. There seems to be a huge difference, to my mind, between doctrinal advocacy of of something within a religion, and the adoption of certain positions by religious institutions, people, or movements. The former seems to be static, more dogmatic, unassaible to believers. The latter seems to be more dynamic, but yet, not a bit more rational.
