Effects of porn on the brain

Absolutely NOT. I don't want it to include useless opinion and anecdote. I want it to focus on supportable explanations.

Your anecdotes might be interesting elsewhere. They aren't useful here.

Useless opinion is made up because something is lacking or needs to be explained, as in doesn't have a full explanation yet. Useless opinion is usually about subjects quite interesting. Don't you want science to fill these gaps ? That is what I meant. And not always you can have concrete evidence, that comes only at the end of the process. The way is filled with opinions and ideas, some are good some are bad.

No you're not.

No it's not science at all.

If you can back up what you say using data and evidence, sure, of course. The more opinions the merrier. What I don't want is someone offering up their opinion as fact with no way to support it. When you present us with "I feel itchy/dirty after a hand shandy" we have an anecdote. A single anecdote does not evidence make.

When I say "jerking it (or heading on down to towel town, if that's floats your boat) what 3-7 times a month can lower the risk of prostate cancer in men; here's a study". That's an evidence backed statement. Do you understand the distinction?

I think masturbation is mainly bad on a spiritual level. On the physical level, to me personally it is bad, and despite not having concrete evidence I'm still pretty sure it is bad for all. If I were a scientist with means I would probably study this to prove it. Religious people are supposed not to masturbate, maybe they are a good case study.

Here is something to the opposite end. Ejaculating releases sexual tension. Sexual tension that isn't controlled leads to stress and anxiety, that can be negative. So here is the good side of masturbation, which probably explains that study. But what I think is that sexual tension needs to be controlled, and then gradually to reduce the stress and anxiety to a state of calm. This is a way of life. I personally live this way and overall feel good, though I suffer from boredom and depression. So my overall mood is up and down.

Which returns us to the very first response made by me to your very first post on this topic:

What is "life energy" and how can we measure the rate and volume by which it "drains?"

Similarly, what is the "spiritual level?" How do we measure it and rate "bad" in an objective way?

Herein lies the problem. You just made this up and state that it "probably explains the study". You can't just throw out conjecture without any support. You need to back up that opinion, as you're contradicting the causative effect offered up by the authors:

"That proposition is based on the theory that infrequent ejaculation increases the risk of prostate cancer because of retained carcinogenic secretions in the prostatic acini."

"That proposition is based on the theory that infrequent ejaculation increases the risk of prostate cancer because of retained carcinogenic secretions in the prostatic acini."

I see this as just going heavily into detail. Sort of like going down scale and finding quanta. Light for example as we know it is much more interesting and colorful than just the quanta it is made up of. It is an entire world.

What you quoted could be the biological side of the psychological issue.

Again as I have said, these are things still out of the grasps of science. Studying telekinesis and telepathy can help to improve this subject.

I see this as just going heavily into detail.

Reliving stress and anxiety, and removing carcinogenic substances from the body are two entirely distinct phenomena. One is not a simplification of the other in any way, shape or form. As result, I see one example here as "actually reading the article and using an evidence based argument", and the other as "making stuff up."

I think that being unable to distinguish between coming to a conclusion based on a preponderance of evidence, and simply making things up will seriously inhibit one's ability to discuss science. Are you sure you're clear on the distinction being made here?

I am weeping that these words are on my science forum.

If this is going to be your modus operandi, I don't think it will be good for your condition to continue. Everyone here is just going to berate you for this type of shit, and I can't think of a reason why they shouldn't, other than you've admitted to some mental instability (and that's not a reasoned reason). This site really isn't for you, unless you like to be constantly told you're ignorant about science and you should really stop posting unsupported garbage on a science site. I don't know how much you can take, but I'm really tired of seeing other members waste their time on your soapboxing.

I'm not sorry for saying this. I'm sorry that what's being offered to you is being spurned. I can't believe you think your behavior is appropriate, but then I doubt I'm the only person in your life that thinks this way. This place is full of people who care about science, and were willing to discuss it with you, if you only had a less closed-minded approach.

I have to assume that, if there's no change, you aren't interested in following the rules you promised to when you joined. I have to assume that you are here to rant with no point, and that you consider science to be "heavily into detail". I have to assume this behavior is going to continue to be a huge time-suck for our members, with no returns on the investment.

You don't seem willing to learn. You are all too willing to preach.

Psychology and biology go together hand in hand. That is how I see it. I am not an expert on the subject but maybe the stress and anxiety help create the carcinogenic secretions, or prevent the body from handling them.

On a bit of a different note, to ejaculte you don't have to masturbate. You can have sex, or do the alternative I offered. I see the action of touching and rubbing your genitals as the main problem. When I do my alternative I don't have all those negative symptoms I mentioned, just saying.

I'd say that was a very simple scientific explanation as to why you shouldn't abstain from ejaculation. You seem to think that any scientific explanation is either wrong or too complicated which leads me to wonder why you're on a science forum at all; I can assure you there is a lot of pseudoscience and quackery on the internet and you don't need to look to hard to find it. I'm sure you'll be less frustrated having discussions with like minded people since you don't seem curious at all about the nature of things using evidence based theories and studies.

I thought we already established that your symptoms were psychological because of your tendency to associate masturbation with negative consequences?

I just have to say, every time I comment on this topic I have Monty Python's 'Every Sperm is Sacred' sketch in my head. It's driving me crazy :P

I think it really depends on the age and what kind of porn the kid watches, I think its good to have some exposure to the opposite gender because they have a natural curiosity about what the opposite gender looks like. I cant remember the exact age I started but I think it was around 6 or 7th grade. I watched pretty tame porn and for me I just wanted to see penises learn more about the male body because there is no other way to see nudity. I remember around that time my parents didn't want to give me any kind of sex talk, they still haven't talked to me about it, but they gave me a book on sexual reproduction that shows the male and female organs, I ripped out the male one and hung it on my wall to look at, they asked my why did you hang that up, I told them I'm learning anatomy. I laugh about it now, ant at the time I had no embarrassment about it but now I'm embarrassed about anything sexual and thats probably because my parents didn't talk about it and it was a secret from me I had no one to talk to about it so the only opinion I had was my parents and they made it sound taboo. Around that time they also put parental controls on the internet where I couldn't access porn or nudity. I would type in nude or naked man and all the nude images were blocked.I became ashamed for liking boys because I was not allowed to look at them and now i have a hard time talking about it to anyone. and Im just embarrassed about my sexual organs. I think hiding these sort of things can be just as bad as letting them watch whatever they want. I think if i was a parent I would control what they watched I wouldnt want them watching hardcore porn, I would talk to them and figure out a way for them to not watch anything that's psychologically damaging. I think its important to have discussions with your kid about porn and sexuality. if they don't watch it at your house they might go over to a friends house.

I generally concur with your experience. How your parents treat sex rubs off on you with often negative consequences. My attitude would be to educate on the mechanics of baby-making early and when they become sexually self-ware with a desire to access such media I would give them a free rein but make them aware of the permissible limits that is appropriate for our country of residence. The thing is to help them to understand that the internet is limitless and stress the importance of self-censorship.

yes it did.I dont remember how I found out where babies come from ,I knew when I asked when I was very little they told me that storks bring them but everything else i found out online. they didn't let me masturbate they said it was wrong and only sluts do it and to this I am afraid to masturbate, I am just afraid of everything sexual because then I'm a slut. women are just afraid to be sluts. its just, then what? what do I do to reverse this mentality?but I wonder what kids grow up if they watch inappropriate porn at a very young age.

Keep telling yourself it's OK and just get on with doing it; eventually it will sink in that it's perfectly natural. You are not a slut for doing it. What's different between the sexes in that respect? None. If you are slut for doing it then, in the name of fairness, men are too. I've been a 'slut'all my life.

This is something that might take a decade or two to determine because access to porn at current levels is pretty new. Societies are still trying to understand its effects in the long run and put in appropriate controls for certain age groups.

I think there are also tentative moves to destigmatise masturbation in primary schools in the UK - or at least in his school - because I remember my 6 year old nephew saying his teacher mentioned about "private time" in class. I think the theme of the lesson was: it's ok but do it by yourself.
