Can someone support someone who needs motivation

The title should explain its self but...I'm getting B's in some of my classes cause I see no point of studying and im getting lazy....Psssh yeah ok. So please make this go away! ITS KILLING ME!

Accountability is the most important factor in that kind of motivation. You have to be accountable to yourself. Your life has a meaning, you have certain goals, and you following your goals enables you to function well with others. I would simply delve into the social life intead of withdrawal, and monitor myself to make sure I'm living up to my own potential.

This is for sure incomplete...

You seem to be asking how you can coach yourself to achievement. Consider these:

1. It is not as essential as some people may think to get all A grades.

2. You are already the measure of your motivation. It is you passing judgement upon yourself. You need to think about why you are not "motivated."

3. Examine whether you have lost motivation because you lose concentration. You may need to break study time into smaller blocks of time.

4. If you are twelve, then puberty beckons. Do not imagine you will escape unscathed. You will surely be distracted. Plan for those distractions. Prioritize your time. Social development is as almost as important to sucess in life as intellectual development.

I think you realize no one but you can do this. As ramin said, hold yourself accountable. Things and other people are only temporary motivation. Motivate from within, otherwise you'll always be looking for others to motivate you. If you're happy with yourself, you can be happy anywhere with nothing BUT yourself.

Then things and people can come and go, but you'll still be motivated and happy.

And no, I'm not going to put a damn smiley face on this. It'll be hard, but you're smart and tough and you can do it.

My parents are so stubbron. I mean they get all agro on you if you screw up your wording when you explaing something to them. I explain them that I got 2 Bs and I sad why are you all mad and my mom was like. WHAT DID YOU SAY!?!?! I WANT THE BEST FOR YOU....etc. etc. etc. Bleh It's hard to believe they were like us once.

Parents are people. They say things that are ill-considered sometimes. I always wanted to see my daughter working up to her potential but I could not always see clearly what that potential was.

Perhaps your parents want you attend an Ivy League school and become an attorney and eventually a national or world leader. Parents can have very unrealistic dreams for their children.

What do you want to do? Who do you want to be?

If you have not made up your mind yet (entirely understandable) then you might ask for your parents guidance. Explain to them that being a garbage collector serves a useful purpose in society and that someone has to do it. :D (Just kidding. :) )

Alternatively, you could find a middle ground. You could show them your assignments and the approach you use for completing assigments within the allotted time. If you are already working up to your potential, they should have little complaint.

You originally said you were getting lazy. If you can see this, perhaps your parents fear it too. There is a very fine line between conservation of energy and laziness, and it has to do with motivation. It's one thing to use the least amount of effort possible to complete your tasks, and something else altogether when you procrastinate or neglect your responsibilities in favor of more fun pursuits.

Perhaps you should pick one of those Bs and figure a way to turn it into an A if you can. To me, it sounds like you know you could get As, and it has nothing to do with your parents griping. That's just an excuse. If that's not the case, and a B is truly what you deserve, then be happy with that.

you guys are talking about the source of the problem... his parents.

parents are stubborn, they probably wont change no matter what you say, so i think it's better to tackle the problems.

for starters:

do you think you should get better than a B?

do you think you physically can get better than a B? (if you work)

what do you think your teachers expect you to get?

=================

if you think you should you must make yourself. if you think you can, you must, again, push yourself to do it. if teachers expect it you are certainly capable and really should push yourself to get that.

at the same time we must remember that not everyone is capable of As in everything. i have a good friend who falls into that category. it's a case of knowing the best you can realistically get and then making yourself get it.

think of it this way, if you screw up your school life and education you will regret it for the rest of your life, a good grade may seem boring at the time learning for it, but you'll live with it forever.

one thing i say to myself at the end of a day of 100% work is... well that's that, all past now, if i had have played i wouldnt have done so much work and i'd have to do it tomorrow anyway, and even if i had have played its in the passed, wouldn't have got me anywhere, i dont have to play and do have to do work, playing doesnt get me anywhere and isnt needed.... at the same time playing rocks!!!!!!!! you must get a balance and follow a STRICT routine and be able to make yourself follow it.

Heh thanks guys. You guys are awesome. I have found a flaw in my brain. I forget to much. Must be an early sign of alsheimers(spelling). Well to solve it I put a small note book in my pocket and do what ever it says on it. I hate assignment books cuz they're just not portable. Any ideas how to rid my laziness and "forgetfulness"

Forgetfulness can be caused by serious problems. Or it can just mean you are distracted by many interesting things going on in your life. If forgetfulness is a serious problem maybe you can get your folks to buy you a Palm. :) Or maybe one of those cool laptops with a built in microphone. :)

In all seriousness, I have ADD and I am devising strategies all the time to help me remember things. If I write these ideas down on paper, I generally lose the paper. That's why I try to record almost everything important into my computer Personal Information Manager. I also religiously back up my info.

On the hard copy side of the equation, I have a Tickler file. This has file folders labeled 1-31. You can buy these pretty cheaply. It allows me to store all work-related paperwork in it. For instance, tomorrow is the 12th. I have to attend a training for my dog for which I need his vaccination records and I have a meeting on 501©3 nonprofit for which I am VP. All the paperwork on these two items are stored in the file numbered 12.

When I am through for the day, I will restore the dog's vaccination records to my regular file and I will put the 501©3 papers in the file for the date of the next meeting on the 26th in the Tickler File numbered 26.

If you are having trouble remembering, it is your responsibility to devise strategies that will help you. You have already found one way to do that with your notebook idea, wisely using something that suits you.

Good luck for your future success.

ah my friend you are not alone.

we all suffer from temporary burnout.

Variety is the spice of life.

have a break, do something different for a while.

Exercise,

the body and mind are the same thing although we separate them for discussion.

get that blood pumping through your veins.

Go see a play or a film for some inspiration.

read about a great achiever in your field of interest.

deny yourself a common luxury for a day.

get an early night one and a while.

socialise .

If you notice your clothing is on fire you are likely to take immediate action to put it out. You are motivated to act by a clear and present need.

Action, in the form of study, to obtain good grades, to expand your knowledge, to acquire skills, is directed to vaguer, more distant goals - a 'good' job, a better life. The rewards for this action are thus deferred and ill defined - quite a contrast with extinguishing a dress or jeans.

What helps me self motivate in these situations is this thought: it is the ability to act for the distant future that distinguishes humans from animals; it is the decision to do so consistently that distinguishes successful humans from unsuccessful.
