Preference for online social interaction

Why do people choose to interact online? What are the reasons that people use Facebook and other social networking sites? I am undertaking research into this topic as a part of my Honours Degree in Psychology at University of New England. If you are over 18 and would like to participate in this study please visit:

This project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of New England (HE14-107 valid to 20/5/2015).

Hi!

I am currently taking a summer class at NC State University called Women and Gender in Science and Technology, and we have a final project due in just a few days. For our project we created a website to show how women have vitally contributed to science and tried to explain why it is so important for women to pursue careers in STEM fields. The main goal of our site however is for our visitors to take a survey to see how much people’s opinion on the subject changes after they become aware and educated about how important women are to Science.

It would really help me and my group if you could go on our site and look around a little bit and then take our survey!! As an incentive to take our survey, upon completion, if you email me at promotingchangesurvey@gmail.com with the subject line Redbox, I will email you back with a code for a free Redbox one-night rental! Here is our website: http://promotingchangeinscience.weebly.com

Thanks so much for helping!

Dear forum members,

I'm a PhD student at the VHTLab, Utrecht University in The Netherlands. We're investigating collisions between virtual characters (crowd simulation). To understand more about how much detail people can actually see in virtual characters, we have set up a small experiment.

We would like you to participate in our survey at http://survey.stuvel.eu/. It should take only 5-10 minutes of your time, and would help us a great deal. There is something in it for you too: we'll raffle off an Apple iPod Shuffle among those who have completed the survey.

In case this sounds familiar, you may have already participated in an earlier experiment. This new experiment is a follow-up, and uses video rather than static images.

The survey will be open until November 3rd.

Thanks in advance,

Sybren A. Stüvel

Dear researchers,

Please fill in my 1-minute anonymous survey (for more info, see text below):

https://qtrial2014az1.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8HdufImIrB3JXyR

My name is Alejandro (Sasha) Vicente Grabovetsky. I took a break from Neuroimaging to work on my other passion, science communication and programming tools to help scientists write more effectively and I want to find out what other scientists would like to have to make paper (and grant) writing easier and better. Constructive feedback on survey and idea very welcome.

Best,
Sasha

Dear friends,

I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People,

a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine?

If this petition gets 100,000 signatures by January 23, 2015,

the White House will review it and respond!

We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama

Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets

enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.

You can view and sign the petition here:

http://wh.gov/iYBOj

Here's some more information about this petition:

Our Money Should Be Designed to Celebrate Science Instead of Presidents.

Let's celebrate progress instead of dead politicians. Let's set our

sights to the future instead of the past.

Hello!

I am working on a short documentary on online and long distance relationships.

We are looking for people who have been in a relationship for a while but haven't seen each other in months, because they live in different countries/continents.

Maybe one of them is a scientist working on the field abroad etc etc..

We would pay the couple for the time and we would also pay for their flights to see each other.

Would you happen to know of any?

This is for a London-based production company.

please email me at danaeleb@yahoo.gr if you are interest or if you happen to know anyone who might be!

Also please spread the word!

thank you

Hello all,

I am a student at a community college and I am planning to transfer to a local university next year. In one of my classes this semester, which is meant to prepare us for choosing a major and career, I need to interview someone working in my chosen field of study. As I am interested in Biochemistry, I was hoping that someone on this forum would be willing to answer my interview questions. There are only six questions and they can be answered via email, so no phone contact is necessary. I would also need to know your name and where you work in order to show that you are currently employed in a biochemistry related field. I know some people do not like to give this information out over the internet, so I will reciprocate and use my student email account in order to establish my own credibility as a student. If you are interested in doing the interview or know a different forum in which I might have more luck, then please reply to this post or send me a private message with your email address attached and I will get back to you as soon as I can, thank you.

Best regards,

J. Kennedy.

P.S. If this post is in the wrong section, I apologize. This looked to be the correct place and I am in a hurry to make it to my next class.

Hello,

How important is science? How important is economics? Which one is more capable of dealing with climate change? What do you think and what do other people think?
We are researchers from the University of Otago’s Centre for Science Communication in New Zealand, and we are working to understand how practicing scientists with Masters or PhD degrees judge the relative importance of science and economics in solving major challenges such as climate change, food security, health, natural resource management, and environmental protection.

We will be running a survey and we hope that you might fill it in. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes, is voluntary, anonymous, and has ethics approval from the University of Otago. The survey will be open until the 30th of September.

The Survey is now open and available here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L2FB6WP

Yours, with thanks,

Fabien Medvecky

Hello, I am a freshman at NYU's Stern School of Business. I am participating in their 200K Entrepreneurship Challenge in the Social Venture Competition. We are in the process of gathering data for our feasibility report. Before I introduce our venture, I'd like to get some information about your experiences and preferences as to eliminate any bias.

These questions are not for such a niche community, but I believe your input will be valuable nonetheless

Thank you for taking the time!
