What do you look like.....in cartoon

If you forget the past, it allows for such atrocities to happen again. Why do you think stuff like that keeps happening. Should I just ignore the fact that all of my great-grandparent's siblings were murdered, and that if it weren't for lucky chances (my great-grandparents moving to america) I wouldn't be here today.

Making light of Nazi's makes the situation less serious. It's as if people don't care about it, and it didn't matter. I hope that this is not the case.

If people are allowed to forget, it will be allowed to happen again. You just don't care becasue you think your safe from it. What if they come after you and your family.

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Martin Niemöller, German Lutheran pastor.

Obviously dwelling on the past can be harmful. But there is nothing wrong with remembering events of the past. By studying the past we can learn from our mistakes.

One of the reasons the holocaust occured in the first place, is that people didn't remember events like that happenening in the past. By refusing to beleive it would happen, they allowed it to.

It's the same thing as your family member. If you forget about him/her, and don't do anything about it, then it will allow the terrorists to kill more of your family, I'm sure you don't want that to happen.

yes i wouldnt want that to happen. But I would welcome jokes about terrorists or something that makes fun out them. Well I guess it depends on person to person

But that's just. The cartoon wasn't making fun of Nazis. It was making of fun of people who are particular about correct grammer. It was comparing these people to Nazis, which I find offensive. I hope no one on this forum would kill millions of innocent people because they forgot a comma. It was making light of the holocaust and the Nazi party, something I believe should be taken very seriously.

Thanks for the support, Artorius.

So you're trying to say that if we make a Hitler parody, that will definately make someone think "Hey, let's have another holocaust because they don't even care about what Hitler did anymore". Alrighty then.

The only point of the picture is to point out that someone is a "grammar nazi", and since most know that Hitler had something to do with the "national socialists", it fits quite well. There's not a single person in the world that you could have a parodical picture of that would offend no one.

And I'm definately not implying that what Hitler did was right. If this was a picture of Hitler kicking a Jewish person or something I'd understand your concern. And this isn't even a real photo of Hitler. It's a parody. Please, don't get offended by silly parodies.

Edit: And the picture is making fun of nazis, or more accurately, the strictness of nazis.

No that's not it at all. I said I found Hitler parodies offensive, becasue thay make light of a serious situation. Then Bloodhound said I should forget about the past, so I then proceeded to tell him why that is a bad idea. I never meant for that to be connected to my first post. I went of on a tangaent becasue of Bloodhound's question.

So don't post them! That way you won't offend anyone!

Now we're starting to get to the zone where no parodies should be made of ANYTHING at all since they are offensive to SOME people. And I don't want to go there. If you think ALL parodies are bad, that's your opinion. And besides, Hitler-parodies were made even during WW2. That just proved that (for example) the United States weren't scared of such a dictator as Hitler. If we didn't make fun of Hitler and let's say, bin Laden, wouldn't that just prove on some level that we are awfully afraid of such people?

Nor do I, however; however, I do wish you would respect my wishes, and remove the link, because I do find that cartoon offensive.

No. Not making fun of someone isn't being afraid of them.

"No. Not making fun of someone isn't being afraid of them."

Not necessarily, but if immediately when someone makes a bin Laden parody someone shouts "Oh no, you can't do that! He's a powerful man that will kill you for that!" and force the guy to remove the parody from wherever he put it, wouldn't that kind of behavior just reinforce the position of bin Laden?

"I do wish you would respect my wishes, and remove the link, because I do find that cartoon offensive."

Alright. I'll do that when the Internet is clear of blonde parodies that offend me greatly, as I happen to be a natural blonde.

If were to say it like that, then I would agree with you. However, I am not saying that. I am not saying that the Hitler cartoon should be removed because we should be scared of him. I am saying that it is a disrespect to my kin who were mudered by him.

But no one's posting blonde parodies here. This is a Science Forum!! I didn't become a member so I can be insulted by tasteless jokes.
