Asian Forest Elephant

Auk

Recommended Posts

Hello:

I would like to inform the reader that a new sub-species of elephant has been discovered.

As you already may know there were two species of elephant. The african elephant with large ears and the asian elephant with somewhat smaller ears than the former. Through recent DNA tests it has been proven that there are two sub-species of Asian elephant. Some elephants live in the woodland and shrub bordering the deserts. And there are the other Asian elephants than live in the desert.

I though that you, the reader would be interested in such a find.

The plot thickens. Here is a report of three sub-species, none of which appear to be either the Borneo variety or the new desert variety.

The Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus) is a one of three subspecies or races of the Asian elephant ''Elephas maximus". The other two subspecies of the Asian elephant are E. m. sumatranus on Sumatra and E. m. maximus on Sri Lanka. The Indian elephant for example, is larger, has longer front legs and a thinner body than the Asian elephant found in Thailand.

This is from http://www.honoluluzoo.org/indian_elephant.htm

You would think something the size of an elephant would be difficult to overlook.

Hello:

There are the ones that dwell in the forests of Asia. And there are the other Asian elephants that live in the desert.

this reader was, in fact, interested in the reported find

but also, in addition, delighted by the English usage.

It makes SFN a better place when people come in and use polished phrases such as this about

elephants who "dwell in the forests of Asia."

Fixed thx for the feedback. I admit I did this short article somewhat quickly without editing it.

Thank-you

Hmmm, can't take a compliment. you edited and got rid of dwell, which I think is especially good when applied to elephants. Pity.

well, dont change it back just on my account
