"Straight Men, Gay Porn"

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I read this article a couple of days that kind of relates to a situation of me but the issue is I'm not a big science guy. So basically, I'd just like to get some opinions on what I found to be quite an interesting piece. Do you agree with it? Disagree? Why?

Your answers would help me tremendously. Thank you in advance.

Disagree or agree with what, specifically? There are a lot of subjects covered in that article.

Well the main point is basically that porn can re-wire a straight man's brain into liking gay porn. So I guess, that would it.

I didn't come away with the same understanding. Our brains are rewired with essentially everything we do. The article suggested that we habituate and desensitize to things. If we eat pizza every day, for example, we will sooner or later develop a conditioned taste aversion and the thought of pizza alone could make us gag. The article gave the example of having sex with the same woman every day for years. The intensity of the experience tends to diminish, and it becomes harder and harder to achieve the pleasure from the first few times. It's a lot like drug use with cocaine and heroin. The first few highs are more intense, and then the body adapts and becomes less sensitive to it, so more is required to achieve that same high.

The article discussed those who watch a ton of porn. They will often become bored with it and look for more extreme sources of stimulation to regain the intensity they felt when they first began doing this. The article referenced S&M behavior and tying people up or dominance activities, and they mentioned how it's also possible that some may find gay porn more exciting because of the novelty of it... It's new and different. The concept was about looking for different stimulation, not that watching porn automatically converts you into liking gay porn. That was my take on the article. IINM, the search for new and different stimulation to achieve the intensity of the first several experiences was the focus.
