Science Anthem

NotanOriginalName

Recommended Posts

Ode to Joy - Beethoven. The joy of learning, understanding, and discovery - and the revelling in unbridled curiosity.

Eleanor Rigby - the Beatles. Lonely, unrewarded, and often chasing a futile and misguided hope.

I just typed 'Science Anthem' into Youtube, with some rather pleasing results.

They're a bit cheesy, but the sentiment is wonderful. here are some of them.

p.s. I've not composed an original score for a while now, not since i did this thing for NBC. I'm tempted to put something together using the lyrics from the above videos.

I particularly like this suggestion

"Ode to Joy - Beethoven. The joy of learning, understanding, and discovery - and the revelling in unbridled curiosity."

I think this version covers the truth and beauty of science as well as any other work ever has or will.

At any rate, anything but this

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace...

The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma.

The sun's not simply made out of gas: no, no no

The sun is a quagmire, it's not -- made of fire-

Forget what you've been told in the past!

Was so happy when I saw they corrected themselves. I didn't even realise they were still putting out albums until someone linked me to the more recent stuff. :D

Although it's arguably less catchy than the original.

I didn't know that either, I will have to check it out when I'm not at work

Having music for science would be like having music for blacksmithing. You can't do that without ending up having some comedy in the song.

Anything too specific for a song is not a good song. Songs are all broad.
