swansont Posted November 5, 2004 Share Posted November 5, 2004 The problem is to convert 3m/s^2 to km/h^2. How do you do that again? Multiply by 1, and cancel the units 1 km/1000 m =1 3600 s/1 hr = 1 (remember to square the whole thing) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
123rock Posted November 6, 2004 Share Posted November 6, 2004 3m/s^2=10.8km/h^2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
swansont Posted November 6, 2004 Share Posted November 6, 2004 3m/s^2=10.8km/h^2 a. it doesn't answer the question (how do you do it) and b. it's wrong. (3 m/s = 10.8 km/hr) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Primarygun Posted November 6, 2004 Share Posted November 6, 2004 Yeah. Rock missed the unit. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
psi20 Posted November 6, 2004 Author Share Posted November 6, 2004 123rock's answer helped me a lot. I forgot to ask what's the answer as well as how do you do it. Why would it become km/hr? There may have been confusion using my notation I think. I meant it to be acceleration as in 3 meters per square second. But now I'm confused. 3m/s^2 * 1km/1000m * (3600s/1h)^2 and I get 38880 km/h^2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
123rock Posted November 6, 2004 Share Posted November 6, 2004 sqrt.3m/s=sqrt.3/1000km/s, then multiply by 3600, get yeah my bad approx 38.888/h^2, forgot it was squared. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
psi20 Posted November 6, 2004 Author Share Posted November 6, 2004 I'm still lost. I don't mean (3m/s)^2, I don't mean 3m/s, I don't mean ((3m)^2)/s, but I do mean 3m/(s^2). Using your method with square roots, I still get 38880km per sq. hr . a/b does not equal sqrt a / sqrt b , but you can take a square root and then square and it'll be equal 3m/(s^2) ==> sqrt (3m)/s = sqrt (.003km)/s * 3600s/h = sqrt (.003km) *3600/h <==(.003*3600^2 km) / (h^2) = 38880 km/ (h^2) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
swansont Posted November 7, 2004 Share Posted November 7, 2004 3 m/s2 * (1 km/1000m) * (3600 s/hr)2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
