A Tripolation
Well, you know, random ethnic guys in athletic uniforms is always a possible outcome when doing maths. Why, just yesterday, I was trying to sum the forces in a truss bridge, when a random Asian guy in basketball clothing flew out of the pages. It's crazy stuff.
the tree
Honestly it's much less of an issue now that calculators aren't limited to those tiny LCD screens, Shaq O'Neal barely fitted onto my little Casio pocket calculator.

ewmon
Never mind, found it out. You take the small number, divide it by the bigger number and multiply by 100% giving you the exact percentage. 1.08% But it's not always "the smaller" divided by "the larger". If your regular pay is $641, and one week you work extra and earn $857, what percentage of your regular pay did you earn?
Mystery_of_GodST
I don't know, I'm concerned with the percentage of the numbers I mentioned above and I'm getting I think 1.108%? Correct? Lol. I want my money! Rates, down, up? Edited January 12, 2011 by Mystery_of_GodST

khaled
If the initial quantity is X and the new quantity is Y, then the ratio of difference between X and Y = ( Y / X ) * 100 % and the ratio of the advancement of Y over X = (Y - X)/X * 100 % so if X = 100, and Y = 150, Y:X = Y/X * 100 = 150/100 * 100 % = 1.5 * 100 = 150%, means Y is 150% of X (Y-X):X = (Y-X)/X * 100 = 50/100 * 100 % = 0.5 * 100 = 50%, means The Raise was 50% of the original Quantity
