ercdndrs
Alright, so I've bought some Drano drain opening crystals (http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=19001029) and I'm wondering how I could separate the chemicals in them.. there are aluminum flakes, prills of sodium nitrate (I believe) and very small spheres of sodium hydroxide/sodium chloride. Thanks!

ercdndrs
I'm pretty sure I'm not trying to make meth I have easier ways to get sodium nitrate... I was looking for NaOH but it turned out that the drain cleaner was actually a mixture of chemicals : / Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedNH4NO3 + NaHCO3 -> NaNO3 + NH4HCO3
Capita
You will probably be better off buying 100% lye I found it at ace hardware under the company rooto usually bigger stores like lowes home depot ect dont carry these things but like I said the stuff isn't to hard to find just look around at smaller mom and pop stores and there are many uses for lye soap, bio-diesel, meth heads only ruined it for everyone. A good way to tell if the lye is 100% is obviously if it says on the package or if its secondary uses are listed as soap making.
