Why do men like lesbians so much?

In theories of sexual selection, male strategies revolve around soliciting as many females as possible, while female strategy is to be "choosy" or highly selective of males she'll engage with for reproduction, as costs of pregnancy/caring for offspring is often higher for females than males [sexual antagonism in evolutionary biology is really interesting, if anyone wants to look into it]. So, following that logic, you can see why males might prefer sexual activity involving multiple females more than females would for males. Although, you know, there is a lot of variation. :eyebrow:

I don't think anyone has pointed out an obvious one yet, but the two acts are usually different I assume (anatomically speaking).

Maybe if more male-male porn was just of two males kissing and fellatio, as most female-female porn is, it may be just as popular.

Chivers et al. accounted for that by showing films of strap-ons and/or airing acts that can be performed between any couple.

Because Chivers 2007 replicated the finding that heterosexual women report quite a bit more arousal to female-on-female intercourse than to male-on-male intercourse, and this was even corroborated by vasocongestion measured as vaginal pulse amplitude.

The authors note that, at least for heteroseuxal women, their findings are consistent with Symon's idenfication hypothesis, wherein women become aroused by identifying themselves with the actors in the films. Again consistent, researchers have found that both men and women spend more time looking at the female actors in erotic films.

I thought I would add this study just to pile on the evidence even more.

The Eyes Have It: Sex and Sexual Orientation Differences in Pupil Dilation Patterns (Rieger, Savin-Williams, 2012)

"An infrared gaze tracker automatically recorded for each participant both pupil size and degree of dilation. (Rieger, Savin-Williams, 2012)" Dilation to same-sex was positive scored, to opposite-sex, negative scored. See Figures 1A and 1B.

They explain how only the female data exhibit a "curvilinear" relationship. In the female data, opposite-sex preference levels off so that heterosexual females never exhibit as strong a preference as lesbians and men.

This strand of the discussion addressed whether females like gay men, but perhaps there's more to be gleaned. A woman who's had same-sex relationships may still be as heterosexual as any other woman. Who knows, she might even be healthier!

Confined to heterosexual, for a minute:

Men looking at naked women are being presented with sexual opportunity, in appearance.

Women looking at naked men are not, usually - they have to identify as being in the scene, project themselves, to be in that apparent situation. A man is not sexually available to a woman unless he is aroused by her.

So the equivalent erotic visual for a woman, to compare with a simply naked woman for a man, would be an aroused and intent naked man focused on her, apparently aroused by her.

If you are just showing pictures of the same stuff to men and women, you aren't comparing apples to apples, from temptation's pov.

I think the problem is not pure biological, but somewhat related to culture. In China, the number of women who like gay is much much more than the number of men who like lesbian. Women can easily talk with each other about their fantasy of two men, but if a man says he likes lesbian he will usually be regarded as weird or gross by other men.

Being a woman, from what I read here, it seems that for the most part there are a lot of men here without a clue! I do not mean that is a snarky way. It just amazes me that with so much information at our fingertips, literally, we still have no clue about each other on the most basic levels.

But firstly I think you would be amazed at the number of women who love to watch/read and are turned on by male on male porn. Probably equal to, possibly even surpassing the number of men who love to watch/read girl on girl porn.

For the most part women are turned on by an authentic response, especially in sexual situations. Men cannot, as women so often do, fake a response. That is the key.

Secondly, I think it is the very same for men. It comes down to authentic response.

As a straight man in my mid-thirties, I will never forget as a 13 year-old boy the euphoric feeling I had when I snuck my first peek at one of my uncle's porn magazines and saw two blonde, gorgeous, beautiful, naked women making out with their butts pointed at the camera. Till this day I'm fascinated by them. I've had threesomes and I swear it's the most sexually satisfying feeling. By looking at it from a biological perspective, we men are hardwired to spread our seed with as many women as we can, if you have 2 or more there at the same time, then, you're just that much likelier to make that happen with most, if not all of them. I still watch lesbian porn today and it still fascinates me as much or even more than it did back then. I can't explain it, it's just that sexually, it's the most beautiful thing to watch on this planet... in my opinion of course!

The answer is to look at Game Theory. Men are programmed to breed and spread genes. They are also programmed to defeat competition. They are always worried that they may be providing for the offspring of another male if their female is promiscuous. If they find females who do not appear to be likely to have sex with other males then these are ideal partners for spreading his genes. Remember that for most of primate history the females were not always necessarily willing partners.
