I think it is not that important to know some persons involved in history (btw: do you really learn who that king was at school?) by name but to know the realtions and what effect their acting had on the course of history. These effects often can still be seen today.

History and philosophy don't belong in the same category but both are interesting subjects.

FAF! Some people do care about history and pseudoscience. I want people to remember that there were crazy muslims and idiot President Clintons. That stuff sure beats other boring subjects like math and english. If we had history then this site would have EVERYTHING....

I think your opinion isn't holding, faf. History rocks.:bravo::haha:

History of science and philosophy of science are inextricably linked, which is why i suggested it as one forum in the first place. I do think we should keep this site as a science specialist though.

I would say, history is also academically pretty rigorous, it's not so far from science.

Philosophers and scientists were pretty much the same thing ('natural philosophy') until recently.

I'd include the history and philosophy of science. It's a good 'border-discipline', a good linking pin for the arts and the sciences at this site.-Ron Price, Tasmania.

"The study of history is the best medicine for a sick mind; for in history you have a record of the infinite variety of human experience plainly set out for all to see; and in that record you can find for yourself and your country both examples and warning: fine things to take as models, base things, rotten through and through, to avoid."

-Livy, Roman historian
