macscigirl
I need to be able to memorize the phases in Meiosis and Mitosis, I have the names of the phases down I'm just not sure how to memorize what goes on in each step. Any advise?
hermanntrude
the way i did this back in the days of yore was to copy out the diagrams repeatedly until i could do it without the book
macscigirl
Thanks. I'm not sure if that would work for me though.... but it won't hurt to try. Any one have any other suggestions?
mooeypoo
I am not much of a biology person (I'm a physics girl, w00-- okay, okay, I'm a nerd. Fine.) but regardless, I find it much easier to remember when I do one of two things: 1. Make the 'lists' into fun/funny abbreviation words so it's amusing and I can remember them this way. or 2. Think of them visually, like a 'clip', a 'movie' or a comic strip - I tend to remember VISUAL stuff better than written data, so I try to have a picture in my head that has visual representations of the written data. Try it, it might help Good luck btw
macscigirl
thanks a lot! Yeah number 1 is how I memorized the phases, PMAT- Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telaphase. Maybe if I think of it like a movie it will help more. Thanks!
hermanntrude
maybe you can actually WATCH a movie and remember that (or elements of it)? Try youtube
magi13
I memorize by utilizing my senses. ^^ I hope these visuals will help you the way I did. The first link is for mitosis the second is for meiosis. http://kvhs.nbed.nb.ca/gallant/biology/mitosis_phases.jpg http://www.brown.edu/Courses/BI0032/gentherp/phaseIB1.html How to memorize 1. Rote: a. Make an outline b. memorize the outline, by writing the outline line by line until you memorized everything. 2. Mnemonics a. Imagine the steps as visual images and place them into a familiar location. ex. a1. Interphase - since I gave you a link about the phases, imagine the first image on the first location and link it with the second phase. (your bed and the image) a2. Prophase - place the image in the second location and link it with the third phase. a3. Third phase with the forth on the third location. a4. So on and so forth till you complete the list. :3 Tip: It helps if you have a lot of location. ^^, Review it twice and you'll remember it for a day. Review the next day and you'll remember it for 3 days. Review it on the third day and you'll memorize it for a week. So on and so forth. In order to recall, just imagine the location and you'll see the image. :3 Good luck, pm me if you need further help.
