broken glasses

Recommended Posts

Being the bonehead that I am, last week I forgot to bring my glasses case with me, so just threw them in my pocket. Of course the snapped on the bridge.

I tried scotch tape (worked for a bit, but wobbly and silly looking) and krazy glue (glue not strong enough to hold the weight at the bridge) and in combination (slightly better but still fragile).

Anybody know anything I can do that works, but doesn't make me look like an idiot?

ducttape. useful and makes an awesome fashion accessorie. :P

you could also try melting plastic onto it. thats worked for me before.

I don't wear glasses, but... Put a big dollup of expoxy in the break and sand it down smooth once it's dried.

I don't know if it would work without seeing the glasses, but maybe a "splint" or splints of some kind could be incorporated along with the tape, like a section of paper clip. However, your "not looking like an idiot" clause might be too limiting for that method.

Glue some neodymium magnets on both sides. If someone thinks that it makes you look like an idiot you can always mess up their credit cards and whatnot.

Perhaps you can find some cheap readers at the drug store you can fit your lenses in.

Not much works with thermoplastic. Try bridging the gap with a length of piano wire. It's even flexible. But overall, I'd definely go with the duct tape fashion statement.

the frame is metal, btw.

Good idea... not sure if it'll work because the shape is a bit unique, but you never know.

I see a brazing in your future, but I've always been bad at cards.

Umm, why don't you just go get some new ones? That's what I do when I break my glasses. Actually, I get my wife to take me, since I can't drive without glasses.

because I'm cheap, and my insurance only covers 1 pair per year.
