zener circuit help

I am new to this and i am struggling on this problem. i am also realy struggling in my circuits class

This is what i have so far the knowns

Vs= 50v

Vz = 10 v

Iz = 32mA

R1 = 1K ohm

Rl =? "potentmeter"

i just got the multisim program and could draw the cir if need be :D

R1 is in series with the source and the zener and rl are in parallel

it wants me to determine the range of Rl, Il, Vrl

I havew so far is 50 /1K = 50mA

Vrl = 10 v

I l = 50mA-32 mA = 18 mA

Rl = 556 ohms

is this correct and how would i go about finding the range of Rl :confused:

thanks joe

"R1 is in series with the source and the zener and rl are in parallel"

here`s the problem, if VS =50 and VZ = 10 but throught a 1k resistor, if you ignore the VZ then the 1k will draw 50ma, with the zenner pulling only 10v then we may say the MA will be a fifth of this being 10ma :)

you say it`s drawing 32ma with a variable resistor across the Zenner diode, so you have to make up and extra 22ma, what resistance setting will the potentiometer be set at??? :)

50 volts drawing 22ma is now the question!

I refuse to do your homework for you, but I`ve solved half of it for you, the rest is a walk in the park!!!!! :)

1 volt at 1 ohm = 1 amp... work from there and shuffle the equasion around until you find what will draw 22ma from a 50Volt supply :)
