The_simpsons Posted April 20, 2008 Share Posted April 20, 2008 Today, bored as i am, i was thinking to attempt the familiar dna extraction experiment, and there is one ingredient i don't have, which is meat tenderizer (protease). Paralith Posted April 20, 2008 Share Posted April 20, 2008 You need some way to break open the cells and the nucleus so that the DNA is free and can be separated from the other cellular components. If you don't do this, you can't extract DNA. If you don't have a protease you could try grinding up your sample with a mortar and pestle, though I've never done that before myself and I'm not sure what the best technique would be.
