3 boys go to a hotel

they buy one room for thirty dollers

so they pay ten dollers each

3 x 10 = ?

then the cashier says o its only twenty five dollers

so he gives each boy 1 dollers back n puts 2 on the floor of ther room for them to split

so they each payd 10 and he gave them each one back so now they each payed 9 dollers

9 x 3 = ?

? + 2 = $29

were did the last dollers go?

If each of them paid $10 but got $1 back, each person would have only $9 less than they started with, but there's an extra $2 on the floor.

So: $9 x 3 = $27, and then $27 minus $2 = $25.

That would make the $25 cost for the room, which is what they paid.

This is because the hotel people were given $27 in total, but then the hotel people gave back $2.

The cashier is the thief. :D

JK...

Original Price = $30.

New Price = $25.

After one dollar was given back, $27 given to the hotel.

Cashier gives back $2 more, so the hotel got $25.

Where's the confusion?

meanies ur reading it wrong:.....

they each payed 10.... he gave them 1 back each

now they each payed 9

9 x 3 is 27 then add the 2 on the floor... and 1 dollers is gone

27 + 2 = 29

You're messing it up in your math. Here we go:

Three boys go to the hotel and get a thirty dollar room. They each pay ten dollars. 10x3=30.

It is later found that the room is only 25 dollars. 25 isn't divisible by three and the hotel is mysteriously out of change, so each of the boys is given a dollar back(so, they each effectively paid nine dollars 3x9=27) and then the bellboy places two dollars on the floor(27-2=25). Now, the bellboy has the $25 dollars for the room, each boy has $1 and $2 are laying on the floor.

Now, let's add it up: $25(in the hands of the bellboy)+$3(each of the three boys was given back one dollar)+$2(laying on the floor)=$30(the original amount paid).

What it seems you are doing is having the bellboy give each of the boys a dollar and then taking two back from the group as a whole. It's no wonder it isn't adding up for you.

its sposed to go....

9 x 3 = 27.. cuz they each payed 9

then 27 + 2 = 29

cuz the to on the floor

so it adds up to 29 and not 30

The two on the floor is part of the 27. If you're attempting to get the original value, you need to add the dollar each of the boys got back, not the two dollars the bellboy placed on the floor. If you are trying to get the actual price, you have to subtract the two dollars the bellboy placed on the floor.
