What Was There Before The Universe, And Where Does Space Goe

Look I'm sure this has been gone over again and again. But for those of us who slept through it...... How can space end?? If it does what is after it? There can't be nothing. As far as I know there is no such thing as nothing. I was thinking that if space does not end then it is all likely that there could be a so called parallel universe of type. The world as we know it is made up of a relatively small number of elements that can only bind together in a relatively small number of configurations (on the grand scheme of things). If the universe was infinite, wouldn't these binding combinations eventually reach a point where they had to repeat those that have already been made??

Just a thought that's all.

rigadin would you mind posting a citation?

Back to the OP.

The universe is finite. There is NOTHING outside the universe, not just a lack of stuff, but a lack of space-time, complete nothingness, and we can't perceive it, there's nothing to perceive.

At the edges what happens is currently debated, but the most common argument is that it loops.

Think rigaden is referring to the 8/23/07 article in Space.Com, by Robert Britt, where a void said to be a billion light years across, was discovered. Voids or areas of space where no matter (galaxy/gas/matter) seem to exist are not that uncommon, however the size of this one is...

Gizmo; The only honest answer is no one really knows. However under Big Bang Theory, its said Space, Time and all sprang from a singularity and this space continues today to expand into an apparent nothingness. You could say the idea, indicates nothing existed, other than that singularity, prior to the BB or our universe.

Under most of the Steady State Theories, the Universe is probably finite (ends someplace) but exist in an endless space scenario. In this case there would have never been a "before".

The current scientific consensus, does go with the BBT....
