softdragonz
I got a clue to transport the electromagnetic energy that gets collected. Maybe we could use a waveguide or a collimator to transport the intense energy back to earth
SmallIsPower
That would be a big waste of energy. the amount of energy to build the "solar system" and sending out into space, converting the energy into microwaves, and building a system to convert this into usable system... not to mention that Microwaves are more dangerous then heat. Anyway, its pointless to convert the energy like this. Until you've built the space elevator, then use tethers or solar sails to move them towards the sun. Rocket Man
a domestic microwave oven uses about as much power as can be collected from 0.5 square metres. the text book normal is 1.4KW on every square metre of ground. that's including atmospheric losses. if you buy a reasonable block of land, build a reflector and a steam turbine, you could probably make a profit on every electricity bill you get.
