If body temperature continues to drop, hypothermia results. But occasionally hypothermia can save lives. Hypothermia slows down bodily processes, reducing the demand for oxygen by brain. Victims of near drowning in cold water thereby escape brain damage.

Heres another one

A ball of glass will bounce higher than a ball of rubber on a flat surface. A ball of solid steel will bounce higher than one made entirely of glass.

Then why doesn't it?

many patterns in nature seem tofollow fractal-type patterns...

Indeed...fractals are unpredictable' date=' sensitive to small changes, and appear chaotic, even though that they were created using very straightforward, non-chaotic equations. Mandelbrot is the most famous fractal n has been referred to as the most complex object in mathematics. It is described with this equation: Z=Z*Z+c. Of the two images that RyanJ posted, the one at the right is the Mandelbrot Snowman Fractal.

Fractals in nature: coastlines, clouds, rivers, mountains, lighting, seashells, trees, flowers....

Also, recent versions of the inflationary cosmos theory suggest that the universe is a huge growing fractal  [/color']

Yup, fractals apprear everywhere.

here are a fe more (thanks Wikipdia)

As we have said found everywhere :)

The idea of a self-crystalising fractal sounds pretty annoying as fractals are based of unpredictable chaeoic systems...

If someone was to take all the human intestines (large and small) in the world, strech them and attach them together they would reach the moon and back to form a loop.

That's just ridiculous. If you try to calculate the amount of space that the intestines would take up if they were compressed into something (say a human body), it would be larger than the human itself. I've read in textbooks that it's 25 ft combined.

Atoms are about ten millionth of a millimeter across and weigh 100 trillionth of a trillionth of a gram

Plants contain an even higher proportion of water than human body

Actually, atom it's weight can be determined by some simple additoin.

An electrons amu = 1 / 1840

acutal mass (g) = 9.11 x 10 ^-28

A Protons or Neutrons amu = 1

actual mass (g) = 1.67 x 10^-24

(1 amu = 1.66 x 10 ^-24 g)

Just to be picky.

thought this was quite interesting....

Murder is one of the only crimes that do not increase during the full moon. Theft, disorderly conduct, larceny, armed robbery, assault and battery, and rape all statistically increase dramatically during the full moon.

Did the American invented the Internet? WRONG. The Web began here (Gevena, Switzerland) as a network of in-house computer sites. It enabled scientists from different departments to share daily findings with one another. [stored from Angels and Demons by Dan Brown].
